Online Submissions Now Open For The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP): 

Canadian artists are invited to submit their two-dimensional and three-dimensional work for consideration to the community of Salt Spring Island’s National Art Prize, offering in its inaugural year, $25,000 worth of awards. Winners will be chosen by an independent jury from across Canada and artists’ submissions will be anonymous to the jury.

SSNAP Is Offering Awards Totaling $25,000:

THE BEST IN SHOW receives the Joan McConnell Award of $10,000 plus a $5,000 Salt Spring artists residency.

THE JUROR’S CHOICE AWARDS, three awards of $1,000 selected by each juror.

THE ROSEMARIE BEHNCKE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS with a 1st Prize of $3,000, 2nd Prize of $2,000 and 3rd Prize of $1,000.

THE ASA AWARD (Alliance of Salt Spring Artists) $1,000 for best Salt Spring artist.

In total, 50 final works will be selected and displayed in SSNAP’s artist collective show catalogue. Original works will be exhibited and for sale at historic Mahon Hall on Salt Spring Island, from September 25 through to October 26, 2015. The list of finalists will be announced on Friday, September 25 with winners announced at an awards gala on Saturday, October 24, 2015.

SSNAP is one of the few national, juried competitions in the country, with accomplished jurors, Vicky Chainey Gagnon, Holger Kalberg, and Ian Thomas sharing a deep knowledge of Canadian art whilst holding different areas of expertise and perspective on the artistic submissions to this national art show.

This exciting endeavor is an initiative of the Salt Spring Arts Council, which represents the arts for Salt Spring Island, known as one of Canada’s premier arts communities.
