2014 Fall Educational Program at the FCA – Alla Prima, Critiques, Drawing, Portraits and more!

The FCA were excited to launch their 2014 Fall Educational Program on Monday 22nd September with Drew Young’s Alla Prima workshop. Students of this class were treated to Drew’s accessible teaching style as he walked students through the processes of this wet-on-wet oil technique. Students left the class empowered with their new knowledge and with some artworks to continue improving on at home.

The next opportunity to learn with the FCA are the upcoming critiques offered by Signature member artists. Signature members of the FCA have met a certain amount of criteria, exhibited at a certain number of exhibitions and undergone a strict jury process as well as become recognised for a high and professional standard of art in their chosen mediums, genres and styles.

Who better for our new Supporting and Active members to learn from than established arts professionals?

This Fall the FCA were excited to provide formal, affordable critiques by Signature members, the first of which is announced as Kiff Holland, SFCA. You can learn more about Kiff here, but if you’d like to sign up for his September 29th critique session, do so soon as spaces are going quickly!

If you can’t make this date, no problem, we are able to offer two more critiques in October and November, with the critics to be announced at a later date. Check back often!

If you’d would like to brush up on drawing this Fall, you can with instructor Bill Higginson, an FCA board member who is offering a one day workshop on Monday 6th October. Learn more and register here.

Portraiture Goatley Promo

The FCA are proud to present a weekend workshop with David Goatley, SFCA entitled Portraiture. A Signature FCA member, recognised for skill in this genre of painting Goatley is a well respected art educator. Taking place from October 10th – 12th at the Holland Croft Studio, students can expect to learn more about the genre itself, as portraiture is so much more than the practise of painting heads, or people. Drawing inspiration from live models, students can experience first-hand Goatley’s approach to portraits whilst improving their own techniques and creating their own works.

Spaces are limited, so don’t miss your chance and register here.

We’re excited about our Fall Program, and we’ve got much more on the way. View the full list of upcoming workshops, classes and professional development courses here. Register learn something new today!

365

SCATTEREDUNTOUCHEDYou may have seen it on our Facebook page or noticed it in our newsletter, but what is 365?

The FCA is pleased to announce, as a first for 2014 and the Federation of Canadian Artists, the first FCA Online Exhibition and Competition. This exciting concept is an opportunity exclusively for FCA Active and Signature member artists. Why 365? Well not only will accepted works feature in the FCA’s first online exhibition gallery, but the top fourteen artworks will feature in the 2015 FCA Print Calendar.

365 is open-themed and provides awards for the top 14 accepted works. The top four art works will be awarded a total of $1,000 in cash awards and the top fourteen works will be featured in our print calendar which will be sold from the FCA gallery, online, and at special events as a fund-raiser for the FCA and as publicity for the featured artists. As the winners will be printed in a calendar, preference will be given to works that have a landscape orientation over a portrait orientation.

The entry deadline for 365 is September 28th, so be sure to visit www.artists.ca, login and submit soon for your chance to not only win cash prizes and feature in the 2015 FCA Calendar, but to be included in a little piece of FCA History, the first online exhibition!
