Victoria Chapter Spring News

FCA Chapter News

This year our spring exhibition was held from March 12 – 23, at the historic Pendray House which is home to the Coast Collective Art Gallery. As well, as the beautiful work of our Federation artists, guests were treated to some amazing views of Esquimalt Lagoon.

We were pleased to have an image from Kristina Boardman, AFCA, entitled “Bonding” for our promotional material. It fit in perfectly with the theme of spring and the location on the oceanfront.

Jurors for the show were: Marney Ward SFCA, Joan Larsen SFCA and Caroline Hunter AFCA. Michael Beseau AFCA, also joined the jurors to observe the process.

Prior to the show a local newspaper, the Goldstream Gazette came out and interviewed Marney Ward about the history of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the process of jurying the show in particular.

We had a few new faces participate in our Victoria Chapter show for the 1st time, including Sheryl Sawchuk, Makaely Ruis and Grace Shaw.

We were also sad to say good-bye to an old friend, Les Funk, who passed away last year. Les was known for his gentle, kindness and his ever present smile. He will be missed very much. His painting “Osbourne Bay” had a special place in the show and his widow, Lou Funk attended the opening.

The opening for the show was on Saturday, March 15 and we had a wonderful turnout with an estimated 150 people. Light refreshments were served and a good time was had by all.

Poplar Room – Saanich Fairgrounds

$160 FCA Members/ $175 Non-members

Nancy welcomes the opportunity of taking you on a romp using soft pastels to explore a wide variety of application methods on a few types of papers. She extols pastels as immediate, sensual and beautifully colourful. Nancy thinks pastels are an underestimated and misunderstood medium and is confident that whether you have had experience or not you will make discoveries. We will do some exercises and create a small series of pieces.

Nancy will provide a few samples of fabulous new papers and a range of her pastels for you to try.

Note: For those who are really curious but can’t invest in pastels for the workshop she will make available some for you to use.

Snacks, coffee and tea will be provided.

Please bring a bag lunch.

Maximum 18 participants

Our Fall Exhibition will be held at the lovely Goward House, November 1 – 27, 2014. Important dates are on the website and also will be in the Grapevine Newsletter.
